Let’s Start

To add the first activity to the Activities tab of the Explorer use the AddIDEF0 context menu item. This automatically adds the "Model" node and the first activity with the "A0 IDEF0" name to the model. Next, you can continue adding activities to the Activities tab in the Explorer or open the A0 IDEF0 diagram and design the diagram. Activities you add to a diagram have the same notation as the diagram (excluding Cross-functional Flowchart where activity shapes are added with the ‘Action’ type). The notation may be changed later, if necessary. To do this, use the Convert into context menu item of the activity in the Explorer.

Activity Name and Code

A new activity is added with a name that contains a code. The name is entered by the user. The code type is selected in the Main Menu (Main MenuHomeAll Users SettingsModels tab → Activities property group). You can select from the options:

  1. No. No code is added to the activity name.
  2. Elementary code. Elementary code generation rules are applied. Open them by the Model properties hyperlink in the Properties Window of an activity.
  3. Full code. Full code generation rules are applied. Open them by the Model properties hyperlink in the Properties Window of an activity.

A model is an activity of the ‘Folder’ type or the ‘Model’ node that is generated automatically when you add the first IDEF0 element to the Explorer. Model properties are specified on the Model properties tab in the Properties Window of the model object. The settings affect the entire model.
