Recommendations on How to Start

Use the following exercises to get acquainted with the Business Studio Simulation Module:

  1. Design a process diagram with the following sequence of shapes: a start event, a task, an end event. Develop an Event instantiation model for the start event (use the Modelling Activation of a Process Instance article) and run the simulation.
  2. Come back to your process model and define the Processing time, the Technological wait time, and the list of Resources (add resources of different types) and Products for a task (use the Describing a Task Model and the Modeling Use of Resources and Production of Products articles).
  3. Design a process model with a sequence of several tasks and run the simulation.
  4. Design a process model with a sequence of parallel tasks (use the Parallel Branches article) and run the simulation.
  5. Design a process model that contains OR/XOR branches (use the Sequence with OR/XOR article) and run the simulation.
  6. Simulate performance of 2 separate processes that are not connected to each other.
  7. Design a process model that consists of 2 processes with separate diagrams that are connected to each other and the second one starts immediately after the end of the first one (use the How to Model Jumping from a Process Diagram to a Separate Process Diagram article). Run the simulation.
  8. Design a process model that has a sub-process and run its simulation. Use the Design a Sub-Process article.
  9. Run simulation of a process model whose performance depends on the variable values (use Using Variables to Model Time and Logic Relationships Between Object Instances article.

Note that each exercise should end with the careful analysis of the simulation results.
