Describing a Task Model

Task model properties are described in the Properties Window of the "Activities" repository object on the Simulation properties tab. These properties are then used by the simulation engine to create task instances.

Processing time and Technological wait time properties can get either constant values or random. See Figure 1 as an example of using Normal Distribution to set up the Processing time property.

Figure 1. The Processing time property value set up as a random value

The task cost may be calculated automatically as a result of the simulation, or you can set the cost of the task using the Cost and Currency properties (Properties Window of the "Activities" repository object → Simulation properties tab). The currency is selected from the values of the Units repository.

The filled Cost and Currency properties can be modified:

  • To change the Currency property value, just select a new value from the Units repository. The Cost property value will not change.
  • To convert the Cost property value into a different currency, use the Change currency hyperlink. The Units repository will be opened for you to select a new currency. This will change values of the Cost and Currency properties.

If you use different currencies to describe task costs or resource costs, then make sure that you add the required information about rates into the Exchange Rates repository (Main Menu → Process Analysis → Exchange Rates) so that the simulation engine is able to calculate cost property values without errors.
