The following shapes are used on organizational charts (see Table 1).
Name | Button | Shape | Description |
---|---|---|---|
Position | | A rectangular block with the name of the Position inside. | |
Department | | A rectangular block with a bold border. The name of the Department is placed inside each block. | |
Role | | A frame with rounded corners. Org units placed in the role frame are automatically depicted in the Org units list of a role object (see the Properties Window of a role). | |
External org unit | | A rectangular block with the name of the External org unit inside. | |
Hierarchical relationship | | A solid black line. An org unit can have only one subordination relationship with another org unit of either hierarchical or association type. | |
Functional relationship | | A black dotted line with an arrow at the end. An org unit can have functional relationships with multiple org units. | |
Association Relationship | | A solid blue line. Used to create custom organizational charts. An org unit can have only one subordination relationship with another org unit of either hierarchical or association type. |
Association relationship makes it possible to create customized organizational charts. This is convenient when dealing with large organizational structures. You can depict only departments or only positions in an org chart. Also, you can create an org chart that shows org units only up to the level of department heads without further details (Figure 1).
Also, several different org structures can be displayed on one org chart. For example, you can create the org chart that shows interaction between departments of the company and departments of its branches (Figure 2). To display org structure of a branch, you need to drag the org unit of a branch to the org chart and press the Generate org chart button to display its lower level objects.
Org charts are displayed in Department Descriptions; thus, an org chart should be generated for every org unit of the Department type. This can be done automatically by using the Auto Update Diagrams option in the context menu of an org unit (Explorer → Object Context Menu → Advanced). In the opened window you select the org units for which you want to generate the org charts. Note that in case the Auto update org chart on opening option is disabled on the org chart of a unit, its diagram will not be regenerated.
